Martina Mikelić

Contralto Martina Mikelic was born in Split, Croatia and studied singing at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna (MDW), where she received her Master's Degree in the Concert class of Univ.-Prof. Robert Holl.


Admired for her intensive stage presence and extraordinary alto voice, Ms. Mikelic was selected by the MDW as Artist of the Month and as one of the best 10 talents from all Austrian art universities.


Notably, she was nominated twice for the Austrian Music Theater Award : in 2013 for the best young artist as the Page in Salome, and in 2015 for the best female supporting role as Florence Pike in Albert Herring.


Future engagements include Mahler Symphony No.2 in Madrid , Götterdämmerung at the Stuttgart State Opera, debut at the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb, Das Wunder der Heliane and Suor Angelica at the Netherlands Reiseoper.


Debuts at the Staatsoper Stuttgart and Konzerthaus Vatroslav Lisinski Zagreb mark the year 2023. There she had the honor to perform together with the internationally renowned pianist Martina Filjak and with the Croatian Radio Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of chief conductor Pascal Rophe , at the first Dora Pejačević Festival to commemorate her 100th birthday. The concert was broadcast on both television and radio.


In 2022 she had her Swiss debut with the touchingly intense Jocasta (Oedipus Rex).


Her spanish debut was in 2021, in Madrid as well as in Saragossa with the title role in Carmen.


In 2020 she had her Palais Ehrbar debut with Das Lied von der Erde.


She made her Netherlands debut the year before with the alto solo in Messiah at the Theater Carré in Amsterdam, as well as the alto solo in the Verdi Requiem and Mahler´s Das Lied von der Erde.


In 2017 she made her debut at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome with the oratorio Das Paradies und die Peri, conducted by Daniele Gatti.


She made her debut in Tokio Bunka Kaikan with the role of Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus in 2016. At the end of the same year, she made another debut at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow with a Christmas Gala Concert.


She made her debut at the Komische Oper Berlin also in 2015 with the title role in Carmen.


Under the baton of Christian Thielemann she also performed Beethoven 9th Symphony at the Vienna State Operain 2014. She sang Wagner's Wesendonck songs in that same year in the Vienna Musikverein .


In 2011 Ms. Mikelic made her debut at the Vienna State Opera in Elektra as well as at the Vienna Konzerthaus with the alt part in Elias. In the summer of 2011 she appeared again at the Salzburg Festival in Die Frau ohne Schatten conducted by Christian Thielemann.


Ms. Mikelic made her debut at the Salzburg Festival in 2010 as Second Maid in Elektra conducted by Daniele Gatti. The same year, she sang Mahler's 2nd Symphony at the Wiener Festwochen, as well as Mozart's Coronation Mass, conducted by Franz Welser-Möst.


At the age of 23, Ms. Mikelic was given the opportunity to become an ensemble member of Vienna Volksoper. There she made her debut as Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte and since then she had many important role debuts there such as the title role in Carmen, Hippolyta in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, Magdalena in Der Evangelimann, Jezibaba in Rusalka, Zita in Gianni Schicchi, Maddalena in Rigoletto, the Page in Salome, Florence Pike in Albert Herring, Kontschakovna in Knez Igor, Afra in La Wally, the Mother's Voice in Les contes d'Hoffmann, the Alto Voice in Berlioz's Roméo et Juliette, the Messenger in Das Wunder der Heliane, Mary in Der fliegende Holländer, and many more.
